He served as Microsoft’s chief executive officer, president, and software architect until May 2014. It is well nown that he contribut to the microcomputer revolution during the 1970s and 1980s. Gates grew up in Seattle, Washington. In 1975, he founded Microsoft along with Bill Gates in Albuquerque, New Mexico. As a result, it became the world’s largest software company specializing in personal computers. Childhood and adolescence:

In 1955, Bill Gates was born in Seattle, Washington. William H. Gates Sr. (1925-2020) and Mary Maxwell Gates (1929-1994) were his parents. In addition to being English and German, he is Irish/Scots-Irish. A prominent lawyer and a United Way board member raised him. As a result of her maternal grandfather, she was named after John W. Maxwell, the owner, and operator of a national bank. His older sister is Kristi (Kristianne), and his younger sister is Libby. Gates is referred to as "Trey" (i.e., three) because his father had the suffix "II.". His family’s home in Sand Point, Seattle, was damaged by a rare tornado when Gates was seven years old.
Using the Intel 8008 processor, Allen and Gates formed Traf-O-Data. In 1972, he worked as a congressional page. In 1973, he graduated from Lakeside School as a National Merit Scholar.  He enrolled at Harvard College in 1973 after scoring 1590 on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). Additionally, he took graduate-level computer science and mathematics courses (including Math 55).

Steve Ballmer met him at Harvard. Ballmer graduated with honors, while Gates left after two years. In 2000, he succeeded Gates as CEO of Microsoft, a position he held until he resigned in 2014. Professor Harry Lewis presented an unsolved combinatorial problem for sorting pancakes to Professor Henry Gates. Over 30 years later, his successor is only 2% faster. His solution was published with Harvard computer scientist Christos Papadimitriou. Paul Allen hired Gates at Honeywell during the summer of 1974. The MITS Altair 8800, based on an Intel 8080 CPU, led Gates and Allen to start their own company. In the same year, Gates dropped out. Partnering with IBM

Regarding Microsoft’s upcoming PC. IBM first proposed the BASIC interpreter. Gates referred Digital Research (DRI), the maker of CP/M, to IBM. In response to Mary Maxwell Gates’ recommendation to John Opel, IBM’s CEO, IBM approached Digital Research to reach a licensing agreement. Microsoft was ask if it could provide an operating system during a subsequent meeting with Gates. A few weeks later, Gates and Allen proposed 86-DOS, an operating system developed by Seattle Computer Products (SCP). SCP is the exclusive licensee of 86-DOS for Microsoft. IBM’s adoption of Microsoft’s operating system transformed Microsoft from a small business to the world’s leading software company. If Gates transferred the operating system copyright to IBM, IBM’s hardware would be cloned. The IBM-compatible PC running DOS became the de facto standard.

Microsoft became a significant player in the DOS market with MS-DOS (the version sold to customers other than
IBM). Microsoft undeniably influenced the IBM PC. PC Magazine asked Gates if he was "the man?". In 1981, Gates oversaw Microsoft’s re-incorporation in Washington state as chairman and vice chairman. After being diagnos with Hodgkin lymphoma, Allen left the company in 1983, effectively ending their formal business partnership. Gates and Allen donated millions to Lakeside, the school they attended as children. Allen died in October 2018, but they remained friends.

Operating Systems for Windows

On November 20, 1985, Microsoft and Gates released Microsoft Windows for retail in response to Apple’s Macintosh GUI, which captivated consumers with its simplicity and ease of use. In collaboration with IBM, a new operating system called OS/2 was developed in August of the following year. The two companies successfully developed the new system’s first version, but their partnership deteriorated due to mounting creative differences. Until Windows 95, DOS grew organically out of Windows. One year after Gates stepped down as CEO, Windows XP became Microsoft’s first operating system not based on DOS. Windows 8.1 was the last version of the operating system released after John W. Thompson took over as chair on February 5, 2014.

Couples and divorce

In 1994, Gates married Melinda French on Lanai. Melinda began working at Microsoft in 1987. Gates’ ex-girlfriend, Ann Winblad, was permitted to spend limited time with him. Their children are Jennifer, Rory, and Phoebe. In Medina, Washington, the family lives in an earth-sheltered mansion overlooking Lake Washington. On an assessed value of US$147.5 million, the mansion’s property taxes in 2009 were US$1.063 million. Among the hotel’s amenities are a 60-foot (18 m) swimming pool with underwater music, a 2,500-square-foot gym, and a 1,000-square-foot dining area. On May 3, 2021, the Bill Gates announced their divorce after 27 years of marriage. The couple will continue their charitable efforts. WSJ reports that Melinda has been meeting with divorce attorneys since 2019, citing interviews suggesting Bill’s connections to Jeffrey Epstein are troubling. The divorce was finalized on August 2, 2021.
