Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

The Indian actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan (née Rai; born 1 November 1973). Bachchan is best nown for her work in Til ama Hindi films. As the Miss World 1994 pageant winner, she became one of India’s most popular and influential celebrities.  Among Rai’s many accolades are two Filmfare Awards. In 2009, the Government of India awarded him the Padma Shri; in 2012, the French government awarded her the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. “The world’s most beautiful woman” is often cited in the media.

Rai did some modeling while in college. She appeared in several television commercials before entering the Miss India pageant, where she placed second. This led to her being crown Miss World in 1994 and offering acting roles in films. ‘Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya’ was her first Hindi film, released in 1997, the same year she debuted as an actress in Mani Ratnam’s Tamil film ‘Iruvar.’ Among her first commercial successes was the Tamil romantic drama Jeans (1998), which at the time was the most expensive Indian film ever made. In Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s romantic dramas Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999) and Devdas (2002), she won two Filmfare Awards for Best Actress.

 

Early life

A Tulu-speaking Bunt family raised Rai in Mangalore, Karnataka, in November 1973, where he was born on 1 November 1973. She was the daughter of an Army biologist who died on 18 March 2017 and of a housewife, Vrinda, who is also the mother of three children. Aditya Rai, an engineer in the merchant navy, is her elder brother, also an engineer in the merchant navy. It was her brother who was the producer of Rai’s movie Dil Ka Rishta (2003), as well as her mother, who was the co-writer.

Her intermediate schooling was completed at Jai Hind College for a year, after which she joined DG Ruparel College in Matunga, where she scored 90 percent in her HSC examinations. As a teenager, she studied classical dance and music for five years as a part of her training. As a child, she enjoyed studying zoology and initially contemplated a career as a doctor. To become an architect, she enrolled first at the Rachana Sansad Academy of Architecture with plans to become an architect.

Modelling Career

As a result of her win in the international supermodel contest (organized by Ford) in 1991, Rai made the cover of the American edition of Vogue. In 1993, Rai began gaining a great deal of public recognition due to her appearance in a Pepsi ad with actors Aamir Khan and Mahima Chaudhry. In the commercial, she had one line that made her instantly famous – “Hi, I’m Sanjana.”.  She was crowned Miss India World, as well as achieving five other sub-titles, “Miss Popular,” “Miss Photogenic,” “Miss Miraculous,” “Miss Perfect Ten” and “Miss Catwalk .”

Besides representing India at the Miss Universe pageant, Rai was also the first runner-up  India at the rival Miss World Pageant, which was help that year in South Africa. There, she won the crown, the “Miss Photogenic” award, and the “Miss World Continental Queen of Beauty” award for Asia and Oceania. Her dream was to serve as an ambassador of peace during her one-year stay in London to bring peace to this world after winning the pageant. As a model, Rai pursued a career in the entertainment industry until she became an actress at 52.

Acting Career

The semi-biographical political drama Iruvar, starring Mohanlal, Prakash Raj, Tabu, and Revathi, was Rai’s acting debut. She won the Best Film award at the Belgrade International Film Festival. Rai played a fictionalized portrayal of former actress Jayalalithaa as Pushpavalli and Kalpana. Rohini dubbed her dialogue in the film. In her first Bollywood film, she played Ashi, a naive teenager opposite Bobby Deol. Iruvar and Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya criticized Rai’s acting ability. In contrast, she won a Screen Award for Best Female Debut. The 1998 Tamil romantic drama Jeans was direct by Shankar and starr Rai. She played Madhumita, a young woman accompanying her grandmother to the United States for medical treatment. Commercially successful, Rai’s acting and dancing skills earned praise.

Savitha Reddy dubbed her dialogue for this film. In 1998, Jeans was officially submitt as India’s Academy Awards entry. His first role was in the melodrama Aa Ab Laut Chalen in 1999. This film was a critical failure and underperformed at the box office. Pooja Walia, a traditional Indian woman living in the USA, was met with negative reviews; Rediff.com report, “Rai sports a plastic smile and never gets a scene where she can portray any depth.”.In 1999, she starr in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, which turn her career around.  Sanjay Leela Bhansali directed the adaptation of Maitreyi Devi’s Bengali novel Na Hanyate. Ajay Devgan and Salman Khan co-starred.

Nandini, a Gujarati woman in love with Khan, is force into marriage (with Devgan’s character). Bhansali cast Rai after viewing a film and being impress by her eyes. Khalid Mohamed wrote that Rai “reveals an unquestionable felicity for acting. That impossible combination of breathtaking beauty and brain.”A commercial success, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam won Rai a Filmfare Award. In Subhash Ghai’s musical romantic drama Taal, Rai played Mansi, an aspiring singer. In a Rediff review, she was prais for her acting and dancing skills. Taal was the first Indian film to reach the top 20 at the American box office. The Filmfare Awards presented Rai with a second Best Actress nomination that year.
